EM Client Error Connecting IMAP

EM Client is an email client that allows you to access your email service on your computer. Mostly the IMAP is preferred over POP as the Incoming server for receiving emails. Sometimes, while using IMAP on EM Client, an error might occur while trying to connect to the IMAP server. There are many reasons like incorrect IMAP configuration, Antivirus blocking the port for IMAP, etc.

To fix the EM Client Error Connecting IMAP issue, perform the following troubleshooting guidelines.

Solution 1: Enable IMAP in Email Service

Before configuring an IMAP email account in eM Client, you must enable IMAP in your email settings. This may be the basic step, but if you have missed this, then you might not be able to connect to the IMAP server. Follow the steps given below to check and enable IMAP in your email.

Step 1: Log in to your email account and click the Settings icon.

Step 2: From the drop-down, select the settings option.

Step 3: Move to the Forwarding POP/IMAP tab.

Solution 2: Allow Access for less Secure Apps

If you have not allowed access for the less secure application to access your email server, then eM Client may not be able to connect to the IMAP server to receive your emails. So, it is better to check whether the less secure application access is enabled. Follow the steps below, which may vary depending on your email service provider.

Step 1: Log in to your email account.

Step 2: Select the My Account option.

Step 3: Search for the Allow less secure apps option and enable it.

Solution 3: Check the IMAP Configuration in EM Client

If the IMAP settings are incorrect while you initially configured your email account in EM Client, then the IMAP connection error may occur. Use the steps below to verify the IMAP settings for your email account in EM Client.

Step 1: Launch the EM Client application on your computer.

Step 2: Click the 'Menu' option and select Tools.

Step 3: Select the Accounts option.

Step 4: The Account window will open.

Step 5: In the Accounts window, click your IMAP account. Then, switch to the IMAP tab in the Accounts window.

Step 6: Now check the Incoming server. Make sure the incoming server name that you have entered is correct.

Step 7: Also, verify the Port you have used for the IMAP incoming server; It can be 993 or 143.

Step 8: If any of the detail is not correct, then make the changes accordingly.

Solution 4: Disable the Firewall or Antivirus

Sometimes, the firewall or antivirus program on your computer might be blocking the IMAP port on your computer. If you have used the Port 143, which is not a secure port, then your firewall may block the usage of this port for security reasons. Also, there may be a port filtering option in your antivirus software, which, if enabled, allows only the configured ports. So you have to add your port to the port filtering option.
