How To Configure GMX IMAP Settings?

GMX is a free email service that can be accessed through webmail or via POP or IMAP protocols. When you configure your GMX email account using these protocols, you don't have to use the GMX webmail interface. You can access your email account and send messages using other email programs like Outlook Express, Apple Mail, Mailspring, or Mozilla Thunderbird. Desktop email applications will improve your workflow. The advantage of email clients is that you can access your downloaded email messages even when there is no Internet. If you are going to configure your email account using IMAP, you can use the GMX IMAP settings given below.

  • Step 1: First, open the GMX email account and go to the E-mail tab.
  • Step 2: Navigate to the Settings section and tick the Send and receive emails via external program box. Click on the Save button.
  • Step 3: Now, you can open your email application to configure the GMX account using IMAP. Here, we use Outlook.
  • Step 4: Launch the Outlook application and click on the File menu.
  • Step 5: Select the Info tab and click the Add Account option.
  • Step 6: When the Outlook-Assistant opens, go to Advanced options. 
  • Step 7: Checkmark the Let me set up my account manually box. Click on the Connect button.
  • Step 8: Choose the account type as IMAP.
  • Step 9: In the IMAP Account Settings window that opens up, enter the incoming mail server address as imap.gmx.net.
  • Step 10: The port number for the IMAP server is 993.
  • Step 11: Now, select the IMAP security type as SSL/TLS.
  • Step 12: Enter the full GMX email address in the Username section and type the GMX email account password.
  • Step 13: When the Outgoing mail server window appears, enter the mail server address as mail.gmx.net.
  • Step 14: Type the outgoing server port number as 587. 
  • Step 15: Select the encryption method as STARTTLS. Now, click Connect.
  • Step 16: When you are prompted to log in to your email account, enter the GMX email address and password. 
  • Step 17: Now, you will start receiving your GMX email messages on Outlook.
