How To Use Apple Mail Drop?

Mail Drop is a feature available in Apple Mail. Using this feature, you can send large files up to 5GB. The file types that can be sent using Mail Drop are videos, photos, and presentations. To use this feature, you should need an iCloud account. You can also use the Mail Drop feature without the iCloud account. The section below explains how to use Apple mail drop feature with an iCloud email account and with a non-iCloud email account.

Method 1: Using Mail Drop Feature With iCloud Email

Step 1:As discussed above, make sure that you have your own iCloud email account.

Step 2:If not, create a new one and then continue the following instructions.

Step 3:Now, to access the Mail Drop feature, first, you need to compose a new email message.

Step 4:Fill the To, Subject, and text fields.

Step 5:Now, click on the Attachments icon.

Step 6:Select the large document that you wish to send.

Step 7:As soon as you select the large document, a window displaying the “These attachments may be too large to send by email…” message and three options, namely, Use Mail Drop, Try Sending Attachments and Cancel, will appear on the screen.

Step 8:Click on the Use Mail Drop button.

Step 9:If prompted, enter your iCloud account credentials.

Step 10:Now, the selected document will be uploaded to your iCloud account.

Step 11:From your iCloud account, you can send this large document.

Step 12:Once the recipient receives your email message, they just have to click the Mail Drop link to open the email.

Method 2: Using Mail Drop With Non-iCloud Email

Step 1:Basically, the Mail Drop feature works with any IMAP account that is linked with your Apple Mail app.
Step 2:So, if you don’t have an iCloud account, then make sure that you have the IMAP account linked with your Apple Mail app.
Step 3:Now, open the Mail app on your macOS device.
Step 4:Go to the Menu section.
Step 5:Click the Preferences option followed by Accounts.
Step 6:Highlight the account in which you wish to use the Mail Drop feature.
Step 7:After highlighting the email account, click Advanced > Send large attachments with Mail Drop.
