How to Setup Pop3 SMTP for Email ?

The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is used to deliver emails to the respective clients. On the other hand, the Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) is used to receive the emails from the server. Proceed with the steps that are given below to set up pop3 SMTP for an email account.

Note down the port numbers for POP3 and SMTP before configuring your email.

The incoming mail server POP3 port number for the encrypted version is 995. Choose either SSL or TLS connection. If you don’t want your mails to be encrypted, enter 110 as the port number. The outgoing mail server SMTP port number for the TLS connection is 587, and the port number for SSL connection is 465. For no encrypted connection, it is 25.

    Follow the steps to setup Gmail pop settings:

  • Step 1:Go to the official Gmail website from your web browser.
  • Step 2:Sign in to your account with the help of your login credentials, such as username and password.
  • Step 3:When your Gmail account opens, click the Settings icon from the top-right corner.
  • Step 4:Select Forwarding and POP/IMAP and click Enable POP under the POP Download section.
  • Step 5:Click the Save Changes tab to apply the changes in the settings.
  • Step 6:Click the Security icon from your Google account.
  • Step 7:Turn on access to allow less secure apps usage. Then, click Save.

Follow the below guidelines to setup Server setting in Outlook:

  • Step 1:Open the Outlook 2010 or 2013 application and log in to your account.
  • Step 2:Click the Add account tab and select “Manually Configure Server Settings.” Then, click Next.
  • Step 3:Choose Internet email under the Service section and click Next.
  • Step 4:Enter your name and Gmail account address in the displayed fields.
  • Step 5:Select the More Settings tab and enter the following details to update the server settings.
    • 1 : Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.gmail.com
    • 2 : Requires SSL: Yes, and Port: 995
    • 3 : Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.gmail.com
    • 4 : Choose SSL connection and enter 465 as the port number.
  • Step 6:Enter your Gmail account address and password. Then, click Finish.
  • Step 7:Now, the SMTP setup for your POP3 mail is successfully configured.
